It was a clear, starlit evening as Roy Watkins started his drive from San Diego, California to Omaha, Nebraska to begin his new life. He had lived in several different cities in California all of his twenty eight years so this would be a major culture shock for him. His car that he had owned for over 7 years, a 1995 Toyota Camry, was serviced, cleaned, and packed with all of his earthly belongings that would fit the day before. He did not want to experience any trouble on his long arduous journey across country, most especially driving across the treacherous hot and dusty desert roads. Roy knew enough to know that to break down in the desert could easily result in a deadly battle with the Mohave Desert - a most respected and unforgiving foe, especially in the heat of a July day.
Roy was heading to Omaha to begin his new job as a computer systems analyst with a new employer. As he sped north on the freeway, past the tall palm trees gracing the communities along the way, he knew that he would most certainly miss the wonderful weather he had experienced in southern California - among some of the nicest, most temperate within the lower 48 states. He had not necessarily wanted to leave his home but the job offer was one he could not sensibly reject at this stage of both his life and career and therefore he had to make the big jump. But to Omaha? Roy still had a small level of doubt as to whether or not he had made the most intelligent decision, both for his life in general and his career in computer systems.
